This 17-year-old gelding had been on a pasture in Australia that contained dandelion species of plants. This abnormal pelvic limb gait had been present for 3 to 4 weeks when this video was made. Other horses on the same pasture exhibited the same clinical signs.

The clinical diagnosis of the epidemic form of stringhalt was made based on the involvement of both pelvic limbs, the presence of dandelion species of plant in the pasture, the involvement of multiple horses on that pasture and the presumptive neurogenic atrophy present in the crural muscles. We thank Dr. Brian Farrow for the use of this video.
